VP for Marco?

Share |

Marco Rubio keeps insisting he’s not interested in the vice presidency. But his words at a breakfast sponsored by the National Journal at the University of Phoenix seem to indicate differently. A few minutes into his conversation with his interviewer, the junior senator from Florida misspoke and said: “If in four to five years, if I do a good job as vice president—I’m sorry, as senator—I’ll have the chance to do all sorts of things.”

So which is it, Senator? Interested in the VP or not?

Freudian slip alright. His plan is to sit the VP slot out this time and instead run for President in four years if Obama wins. If Romney wins, he waits at most 8 years, the same time he would have to wait as VP to take his shot. At least as a US Senator, he doesn't have to share the limelight as he would as a VP. Moreover, demographers are telling him that if he thinks there are a lot of Latinos who would vote for him as VP in November, there will be even more to vote for him as President four years later. Nice plan.

Mr.Romney needs a VP that can deliver some Hispanic votes.M Rubio is Cuban and cubans dont consider thenself HISPANICS.So Rubio can only deliver the cuban ultra right wing voters but Romney will get those votes anyway without Rubio.Romney will never pick him for VP it does't make political sense.

Marco's "success" story is full of holes....his religion change from Mormon to Catholic will be too much for some ultra right Republican voters to handle Just because he is Cuban-American does not mean he will carry the Hispanic vote. (We Cubans tend to be pompous and arrogant with our other friends to the South.) His stand on many issues important to other Hispanic groups would prove him fatal for the Republicans....Lastly, he has too many issues associated with money. He misused money for his private use....Yes he is young, yes he presents a good "image", and yes he is a good speaker....NOPE, I do not see him as a VP for Mr Obama's challenger right now

I agree with Manny and Cachita, and will go even further: a Rubio vice-presidency would be a disaster for the GOP and the nation. The kid is totally unprepared to take over the reins of the United States if a President Romney died or became incapacitated. When it comes to statesmanship, Rubio is inexperienced and illiterate – likely even inept.
He might be able to garner votes for Romney in Little Havana but what national value can he contribute to the ticket? I hope GOP strategists bear that in mind. They can't afford another J. Danforth Quayle.
Just the thought that he'd be a heartbeat away from the presidency causes me ventricular tachycardia.
